About this spread
The most detailed of the traditional spreads, and the one to reach for when a single question deserves a full portrait. At its centre a cross is built from the heart of the matter and the card that crosses it (the core tension), ringed by its foundation below, its recent past behind, what crowns it above, and the near future ahead. Running up the right is a staff of four: yourself in the situation, the environment and people around you, your hopes and fears, and finally the outcome. Read the cross first to understand the situation, then the staff to understand your place within it. Ten cards is a lot, so take them in those two groups rather than all at once.
